Forget Ethos and Pathos, it's all about LOGOS.

A logo is often the first impression your company may give to a potential client- and as mothers often preach, “First impressions are the most important thing.” You could have a fantastic company, groundbreaking products, and offer amazing customer service but the a bad logo might scare clients off before they even get that far.

  1. Adidas:
Adidas’ logo is a brilliant use of color. The use of black and negative space creates not only a visually compelling shape but it imitates the look of the striped activewear they’re famous for. The rigid lines of the stripes are a bold and active looking image, while the choice of only lowercase, rounded letters make the company name look approachable and non-aggressive.

2.) Queen:

Queen’s logo is a visually interesting piece, it features the four different creatures, each symbolizing a different member of the band. While the logo is a bit eccentric, it represents the band well and still comes across as a cohesive logo. Even more iconic is the “Queen” font, regal and somewhat jagged, it comes across and very dramatic and almost universally recognizable as uniquely “Queen”.

3.) Regal:
Regal recently unveiled its new  logo. A white heptagon rotated and layered on top of an orange shape of the same kind. This logo brands Regal well as the shape mimics the look of the lens of   camera. The font used is effective because of its sleek and futuristic look, super appropriate for an updated logo. The choice of using all orange makes for an attention grabbing logo.

4.) Gmail
The design of the Gmail logo, is another example of an effective logo, it uses the iconic symbol for mail, and uses the shapes already present in the envelope in outline an M for Mail. The contrast with the red on top of the white makes the image eye catching and stays within the simplistic design and primary color schemes that google likes to use. The logo utilizes the sleek rounded edges that so many apps are incorporating making for a logo that would lend itself well to both pc and smartphone viewing.

5.) Blackboard
The blackboard logo is a great example of a logo that communicates what it’s brand is. The logo mimics its own namesake by taking the old school look of a blackboard and modernizing it by incorporating it into the app, similar to the way floppy disks are used as the symbol for saving documents. Another aspect of the design is the text line, it incorporates the special text lines that many students would recognize as the kind they used to first learn how to write. This message communicates really well a theme of simplified learning which makes a really strong visual communicator for what the website is about.

These five logos are incredibly strong visuals that use different techniques to create an arresting image. Whether it be the intricate, ornate design of the Queen logo, or the clean modern design of the Gmail logo, all 5 logos are well-thought out pieces that represent each respective company well.
